They drew with Serbia in their first match of the tournament, but Spain turned around in the second match. They beat the hosts 4-1 in Geneva, Switzerland on Sunday (September 8). It saw the first victory in the new season of the Nations League by the current Euro and Nations League champions Spain.
The current champions took the lead in the fourth minute of the match. Hosselu's perfect header from Lamin Yamal's cross tried to turn the Swiss keeper but it crossed the goal line. Kobel could not clear the shot taken by Nico Williams in the 13th minute. Fabian Ruiz made it 2-0 with a return shot. Amdouni's goal reduced Switzerland's lead before the break. The visitors went into the break with a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, both teams continued to play in an aggressive manner. However, the strikers of both teams failed to separate the target. Spain went ahead again in the 77th minute of the match. Ruiz made it 3-1 with his second goal after a superb placement from Ferran Torres' cross.
Just three minutes after that, Torres took Joselu's pass and scored. With no more goals in the rest of the game, La Fuente's students left the field with a 4-1 victory.
